Day 13: The Famous Poon Hill Majestic Sunrise
Up at 4:15 am to a rooster call, then we all strap on headlamps and silently, slowly, begin the steep stair steps to the Poon Hill observation tower. A hundred + others join us at the top as everyone silently watches the sky lightening up and the mountains start to glow. We are pushing 10,000 feet and the view is simply breathtaking - literally! I take the steps down at my own pace (slow) and enjoy the scenery all the way down. Back home to the Annapurna Guest House where Sherpa Dil has a long standing friendship with the wise, wonderful woman who is the owner - also the one who hauled in the huge basket of wood this am. She and her daughter and granddaughter run the teahouse. Tomorrow I'll post the lesson they gave me on the best cornbread I've ever had :) Diane's family leaves us to return to Pokhara - we will miss them! It was such fun to share this unusual adventure together. Sherpa Dil decides to give our Norwegian friends Lage, Gura, Vern and I an extra day here. Hallelujah! Our feet and knees will enjoy the break.
